POLICE in Stourport are hoping a series of free fishing workshops for young people will ‘catch on’ and lead to some of them wanting to tackle advice on offer.
Stourport Police Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) has teamed up with partner agencies for the Reel Connections project.
These include the Angling Trust, Building Bridges, Wyre Forest Community Foodshare and Active Youth Outreach Services Stourport.
Sessions are aimed at 11 to 18-year-olds and will take place at Active Youth Outreach Services, Queens Road, Stourport, from 6pm to 7.30pm on the several days. They will be on May 14, 15, 20 and 21.
These free workshops will include educational advice about the laws around fishing, where young people can fish, whether they need a licence and a lesson on water safety on different water courses.
There will also be a session around fishing tackle, setting up rigs, using different baits and maintaining fishing equipment.
The force is also planning a Q&A session with a guest speaker and there will be a day for those taking part in the workshops to have a free day with fishing coaches and equipment if needed on the award-winning Larford Lakes.
Spaces are limited but anyone who wants to take part should email PCSO Lisa Hopkins at: [email protected] remembering to include their child’s name, date of birth, parent/guardian names and addresses and contact numbers, along with which sessions they want to attend.
