A HERITAGE day out combined with a captivating exhibition of model railways, displays and rare locomotives is on offer at The O Gauge Get Together.
The event will return to the Severn Valley Railways’ Engine House at Highley over the weekend of October 18 and 19.
The extravaganza will include a strong line-up of model layouts including Exeter St George, Norman Colliery, Brixham, Worcester South Quay, Netherwood Sidings and many more.
Plenty of model railways arriving
Lead model railway traders such as Buzz Models, Ellis Clark Trains, Connoisseur, Finney7 and Yellow Shed Designs will also appear at the event.
The O Gauge Get Together co-organiser Nick Willcox said: “This show has grown from a simple idea into something we’re really proud of.
“It’s not just for dedicated modelers, it’s for anyone who enjoys railways.”
The event offers more than just models, there will also be sale stands and displays which give families and day-trippers the chance to learn about restoration projects and the overhaul of full-size steam engines.
Nick added: “That’s part of the magic.
“You can admire the miniature world in the layouts and then walk a few steps to stand in front of a locomotive that once hauled trains up and down Britain.”
Limited edition wagon
Another highlight is the limited edition wagon which has been specially commissioned and painstakingly recreated from a single photograph with expert advice to ensure an authentic result.
It is based on a local prototype from Pearson of Kidderminster, once a coal and builders’ merchants at the town’s station.
The Engine House, itself is a major attraction, houses an outstanding collection of locomotives no longer in service and fascinating displays which tell the story of Britain’s railways.
Visitors are highly encouraged to arrive by an SVR (Severn Valley Railway) train as parking at Highley is very limited.
Entry to the event in The Engine House is included in the train fare, with all services offering wheelchair accommodation.
The venue itself is fully accessible, and catering is available both at Highley and at most of the railway’s stations.
