TRIBUTES have been paid to Mick Thompson, a ‘stalwart of local football in Kidderminster and Wyre Forest, who has passed away aged 88.
Mick Thompson was a life member of the Worcestershire FA and was registered as a director of the association between 1999 and 2011.
He passed away on Saturday, March 14.
Mick was widely involved in grassroots football throughout Worcestershire, particularly in Kidderminster and Wyre Forest, as well as being a referee assessor and tutor.
A spokesperson for Worcestershire FA said everyone at the association was saddened to learn of the passing of Mick.
The statement added: “Mick was instrumental in the organisation and running of Worcestershire FA’s U18 Representative team for many years, and his knowledge of wider issues affecting grassroots football was immense.
“Everyone at Worcestershire FA sends their condolences to Mick’s family and friends.”
Others who knew Mick took to social media to pay their own tributes.
One said: “Mick was a great stalwart of local football and supporter of referees. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and worked with him.”
Another added that local football was a lot better for having people like Mick around.
And another described Mick as a very nice man and a true gentleman who was always there to support and help upcoming referees.
