TRIBUTES have been paid to a beloved white tiger from West Midlands Safari Park (WMSP) who has died at the age of 18.
Buster was born at the park near Bewdley in 2007 and has been a big attraction to the WMSP family and visitors.
In a post on social media, the safari park said Buster built a strong bond with his keepers, some who cared for him throughout his entire life, and he would be deeply missed by everyone who knew and loved him.
“Despite the devoted care of his keepers, after some recent declining health issues, the kindest decision was made to put him to sleep to prevent any suffering.
“We will remember Buster fondly for his gentle ‘chuffs’ when greeting his keepers, his love of rolling in the grass, relaxing on his platform, and playing with his favourite boomer balls.”
They said many people had special memories of Buster over the years and urged them to share their photographs and stories on the park’s Facebook page so everyone could ‘celebrate his incredible life’.
People flocked to pay tribute to Buster and within days there were close to 7,000 reactions, more than 700 comments and the post had been shared 290 times.
Megan Chelsea wrote: “He was such a beautiful boy.
“He surprised me and my other half on our first visit we wasn’t aware he was at the park. And what a wonderful day he made it to be.
“All my thoughts and prayers are with the keepers.
“Sorry for such a great loss but he will forever be remembered.”
Gareth Cheshire-Whatley added: “I remember holding him when he was a fur baby.”
And Jesse Austin said: “He met Buster when he did the tiger feed experience many years ago for his birthday.
He added he fell in love with him instantly and got his face and name tattooed on his leg a week later.
“Thoughts with everyone who got to work with this gorgeous lad.
“He will be sorely missed.”
Kathryn Reading wrote: “Buster, you were often the bane of my mornings trying to coax you to the top enclosure.
“You and your big red ball will always be a treasured memory.
“Thoughts are with all the keepers who got to work with you.”
