CHILDREN’S author and illustrator Helen Wendy Cooper will be at Kidderminster Town Hall at 11am tomorrow (Saturday) for a special World Book Day event.
Helen will be running a workshop and undertaking a book signing as part of the event which celebrates the enjoyment of reading and the importance of literacy. She will read her best-selling book The Kissing Tree and lead a rhyming game, some poems and creative activities.
Helen has had seven books published and writes for Army Reserve battalion, The Mercian Regiment, and children’s charity Mentor Link.
As well as The Kissing Tree, she has also written Shape Land Trevor Triangle Loses the Mail, Shape Land Silly Samuel Square, Rudy the Reindeer and The Vegetarian Vampire series.
She said: “Celebrating World Book Day at Kidderminster Town Hall is a great honour and I’m really looking forward to it.
“I hope to inspire children to love books, reading and illustrating.
“Reading and sharing stories are a great escapism for children, can help develop imagination and language skills, whilst creating a life-long love of books.”
Helen has previously worked as a judge on CITV’s Share a Story and BBC Radio 2’s 500 Words.
She is currently writing and illustrating a picture book called The Little Hedgehog and a brand-new book series called Clumsy Charlotte.
Tomorrow’s event is free to attend and her books will be on sale (cash only) with the the opportunity to have them signed.
