STAFF and members of Wyre Forest Swimming Club welcomed a special visitor to find out more about the group.
The Mayor of Bewdley, Coun Nicole Harper, began her visit at King Charles Sixth Form Centre, where she met swimmers from the club’s Learn to Swim and Learn to Compete programmes.
She then travelled to the leisure centre to see the club’s competitive squads in action, experiencing first-hand the energy and enthusiasm that characterises Monday evening sessions.
Over the past two years, Wyre Forest Swimming Club has received £1,000 in grant funding per year from Bewdley Town Council.
The visit showed how those funds had been invested to support swimmers, strengthen coaching provision and enhance opportunities for young people in the local community.
During the evening, the Mayor also spoke with swimmers, parents, coaches and the club chair, gaining insight into the Wyre Forest Swimming Club’s commitment to developing grassroots sport and promoting inclusion through swimming.

Coun Harper said it was a pleasure to visit and see the enthusiasm, dedication and community spirit within the club.
“It is wonderful to see how council funding is making a tangible difference to local young people and helping to create inclusive opportunities in sport.
“The energy on poolside was fantastic and I wish the club continued success in the future.”
A Wyre Forest Swimming Club spokesperson added everyone was extremely pleased to welcome the Mayor.
“Her visit was a fantastic opportunity to showcase the positive impact swimming has within our community and to demonstrate how council funding has directly benefited our members.”
Wyre Forest Swimming Club supports swimmers of all abilities across its three programme pathways and looks forward to further developing inclusive opportunities within the sport.
The club intends to submit a further grant application when the next funding window opens.
