FOOTBALL - Adam Murray insists Kidderminster Harriers are 'growing' after Chorley win

ADAM Murray insists his young Kidderminster Harriers side is ‘growing’ following a home win against Chorley.

Goals from Michael Gyasi, Kurt Willoughby and Luke Spokes sealed the points for Harriers after debutant Charlie Cooper put through his own net at Aggborough.

The result means Kidderminster sit sixth in the National League North table.

And Murray praised the reaction of his side to take the points and believes the victory shows his players are learning as the season goes on.

Murray said: “We opened up the game at the right time. Chorley are a big team so we went big at the start. I didn’t want another Radcliffe where we went small.

“We had some really bad luck with the goal conceded but the reaction of the players was excellent and they deserved it.

“It sums the season up. When I think we’re doing well, we get punched on the chin and when I think we’re average, we’re winning.

“I’m not expecting any plaudits [for the substitutes]. I believe in what we do and the proof is in the pudding. We’re fifth in the league.

“I forget how young we are [as a team]. It’s a really young squad. They’re learning and they’re going to make mistakes and there’s going to be a bit of inconsistency.

“The group is growing. We’ve got kids and they’re growing and they’re learning and they’re getting better.”

Gyasi put Harriers ahead with his first goal for the club since arriving on loan from King’s Lynn Town last month.

And Murray hopes the forward will take confidence from his strike against Chorley.

Murray added: “He’s got stronger as the games have gone on. For a little guy he’s really strong in terms of his link up play.

“He said he just needs to get off the mark. We’ve got a lot of boys here who are confidence players and he’s one of them.

“These boys need support in that and the goal will do him the world of good.

“Kurt came on and got a goal as well which will really help him.”

Kidderminster are next in action against South Shields on Saturday, December 6 with kick-off at 3pm at Mariners Park.
