ADAM Murray branded Kidderminster Harriers win at King’s Lynn Town as ‘tremendously ugly’.
Harriers secured a third straight league win with a 1-0 victory at The Walks as defender Emeka Obi scored the game’s only goal.
And, while King’s Lynn’s tactical set-up surprised Murray, the Harriers boss praised his side’s discipline and organisation throughout.
Murray said: “It’s a big result, I’ve got to give credit to the players.
“In all my years of football, playing and coaching, I’ve never come across an opposition that plays that way.
“I have to give credit to their manager. It’s an awful lot of risk but it’s so expansive.
“For the majority of the game they’ve got eight players on the last line and you have to put bodies back to defend it.
“It surprised me. But we knew if we could be disciplined and organised we’d have chances.
“It was the perfect away performance. It was tremendously ugly.”
Obi put Harriers ahead on 25 minutes when he forced Seb Thompson’s initial header from Joe Foulkes’ cross over the line.
The win lifts Kidderminster up to fourth in the National League North table.
And Murray admits he saw a different side to his team and insists there is more to come from Harriers over the course of the season.
Murray added: “I’m so proud. Sometimes, as a coach and a manager, things are out of your hands.
“There was that much going on, on the pitch, that you can’t coach. There was that much carnage.
“You have to hand it over to the players to take the baton and pull you through as a coach and they did that.
“We knew we had to do the dirty stuff. Normally we have the ball all the time, that was new for us.
“But maybe we’re better off without the ball. I saw another side to the team.
“We’re making steps. We’ve still got so far to go. We have to understand the journey we’re on.”
Kidderminster are next in action against Macclesfield on Saturday, September 6 with kick-off at 3pm at Aggborough.
