BEN Crompton admits he was looking for a new challenge before deciding to make the move to Kidderminster Harriers.
Crompton became the club’s second summer signing following the arrival of attacking midfielder Callum Dolan.
The 22-year-old can play in defence and midfield and will offer Harriers boss Paul Wotton plenty of tactical flexibility next season.
And Crompton admits he wanted to explore a new challenge following a spell with Ross County in the Scottish Championship last season.
Crompton said: “It’s a fresh start, it all looks really positive and I’m happy to be here.
“The first impressions are it looks really professional. The ground looks really good, the manager seems like a top guy.
“I can bring a lot to the team. I was looking for a new challenge, I had a year left on my contract but the position I was in, I thought I could come and help this club.
“It’s brilliant the club is back in the National League now and hopefully we can push for more.
“It’s nice to be back home. Kiddy is always a club me and family have looked out for.
“I want to give my all and play as many games as possible and hopefully have a positive season.”
Crompton spent time in the youth academies of Wolverhampton Wanderers and Shrewsbury Town before later joining Sunderland.
He enjoyed a loan at Tamworth in the National League in 2024/25 which included a memorable run to the third round of the FA Cup.
And Crompton believes his loan spell with the Lambs will stand him in good stead following his move to Aggborough.
Crompton added: “You only need to look at a few of the clubs in this league – it’s a tough league.
“There’s some really big teams in there and the quality is good. It’s not to be overlooked.
“There’s not much difference between the National League and League Two. It’s a lot more professional than people would think.
“I’ve experienced the league and I’m ready to hit the ground the running.
“I’m quite versatile, I would say my best position is central midfield. I like to get on the ball and try and dictate play and control games.
“I can also play anywhere along the back line. I’m quite athletic, strong and quick so I think I can bring a lot to the team.”
